Documenting the history of Cape Cod’s artistic heritage and listing the artists, past and present,
who, by living and working here, have helped shape the Cape’s art community.
We are pleased to welcome you to the Cape Cod Artists’ Registry, an ongoing project which will eventually present a complete picture of the artists who have lived and worked on Cape Cod, from the early 1900s up to the present time. Contemporary artists who have a current website are linked to their own site, while those who do not now have a page prepared by us from information we have gathered from various galleries and arts organizations, and in some cases family members. This website gives us the opportunity to honor our senior artists, many of whom were instrumental in founding the arts organizations that we depend upon today, and many of whom do not have their own web sites. Pages will be added as we gather more information—we are still searching for information on some artists, indicated on various pages, and we would appreciate hearing from our readers if they can provide us with a bio of the artist.
We have also searched the files at various arts organizations on the Cape to find original documents that tell us how the various art colonies and arts organizations were formed. Little of this information was in digital format, and it enables us to present a comprehensive directory of Cape Cod artists and their historical and current records in a form that is easily accessed by anyone at any time.
Thank you, and we appreciate hearing from you. — Gillian Drake, Curator
